Development status and trend of aviation logistics in China

1. The total growth of aviation logistics tends to slow down

Affected by the European debt crisis and the international economic downturn, China's air cargo volume decreased slightly in 2011 and 2012. From 2011 to 2015, it generally showed a trend of "stabilizing in slow and increasing in steady". According to the statistical bulletin on the development of transportation industry in 2015 issued by the Ministry of transport, in 2015, the national civil aviation completed 6.253 million tons of cargo and mail transportation and 20.727 billion tons and kilometers of cargo and mail turnover, an increase of 5.3% and 10.9% respectively over the previous year. In 2015, the cargo and mail throughput of national civil aviation transport airports increased by 3.9% over the previous year, with a total of 14.094 million tons.

2. Infrastructure construction is accelerated, and the role of hub airport is becoming more and more obvious

In recent years, the Civil Aviation Administration and governments at all levels have further accelerated the construction of aviation logistics infrastructure. The number of airports in China is increasing and the scale of airports is expanding. In 2010, the total investment in fixed assets of the airport system was 44.15 billion yuan. In 2013, the total investment in fixed assets completed by the airport system reached 50.75 billion yuan. As of 2015, there are 210 civil aviation airports in mainland China, including 206 regular flight airports and 204 regular flight cities [4]. Airport cargo and mail throughput is gradually concentrated in a few airports, and the hub role of airports in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou has become increasingly apparent. In 2015, the annual cargo and mail throughput of 51 airports reached more than 10000 tons, accounting for 98.4% compared with the National Airport cargo and mail throughput, and the cargo and mail throughput of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou airports accounted for 50.9%. Among them, the cargo throughput of Shanghai Pudong International Airport ranks third in the world.

3. The logistics transformation of air cargo enterprises has been accelerated

In recent years, domestic air cargo enterprises have launched their own logistics transformation strategies. Air cargo was the first to launch an international comprehensive transportation solution; China Cargo Airlines is the first airline in China to clearly put forward the "integration of heaven and earth" strategy [5], emphasizing that in addition to giving full play to its air advantages, it will also strengthen the ground transshipment and high value-added transportation business in the Yangtze River Delta; China Southern Airlines Cargo officially joined Trina Solar Cargo Alliance in November 2010 to provide platform support for its development in the international aviation logistics market. In China, it reached a strategic cooperation agreement with Yuantong express and Shunfeng express to start the pace of domestic aviation logistics transformation; HNA integrates freight resources through greater Xinhua logistics to promote its super x plan for logistics transformation. In short, domestic air cargo enterprises have started the transformation strategy of air logistics. In 2013, China Eastern Airlines logistics creatively put forward the transformation idea of "express + e-commerce + trade". First, China Eastern Airlines has carried out logistics cooperation with e-commerce enterprises such as Taobao and tmall to further expand the express market; Secondly, with the help of the "China Eastern Airlines origin direct" e-commerce platform, China Eastern Airlines logistics focuses on the whole industry chain operation characteristics of "centralized origin procurement, air express, self-supporting distribution and real-time information tracking". This whole industry chain operation mode promotes and drives each other, providing a new way for China Eastern Airlines logistics to transform into a comprehensive service integrator.

4. The industrial transfer in the eastern coastal areas promotes the transfer of the focus of aviation logistics to the central and western regions

With the gradual advancement of the western development strategy and the transformation and upgrading of the industrial structure in the eastern region, a large number of manufacturing enterprises have shifted from the southeast coast to the central and western regions, and the focus of aviation logistics has also tilted to the central and western regions. [6] Since 2011, the development momentum of airports in the central and western regions has been faster than that in the eastern region. Taking Zhengzhou as an example, after Foxconn settled in Zhengzhou, Zhengzhou airport completed 370000 tons of cargo and mail throughput in 2014, with a year-on-year increase of 44.9%. The ranking of airport cargo and mail throughput jumped from 15th in 2012 to 8th, and the growth rate was among the best. In March 2015, the transfer center of Chengdu Shuangliu Airport Cargo Airlines invested 20 million yuan by Sichuan airport group began to be put into use. The transfer center has attracted a number of powerful enterprises such as SF. SF logistics chose its western aviation hub transfer center in Shuangliu Airport, which will further enhance Chengdu's influence as a western aviation logistics hub.
